Travel inspiration can come at me from any direction. Friends, magazines, books, tv, movies and so much more.

Mostly for me though, my travel inspiration comes from books. I love submersing myself into a book and soaking up all the details. Different worlds, places, countries, times. You know that feeling you get when you’re reading a book and you know just HAVE to get to the place the author is describing? I have that right now. I’ve been reading Outlander by Diana Gabaldon and I really can’t put it down. Her description of the Scottish highlands is so clear in my mind. I can smell the fresh country air and see the rolling hills in my minds eye and know that I’ll be restless until I see it for myself.

So on the travel list it goes.

Over the past couple of years I have been reading (more like obsessing over) a series called The Black Dagger Brotherhood by J R Ward which is set in Caldwell New York. Whilst most places in her books are fictional, I’d still love to see the place that’s surely been her source of inspiration. And I’m doing just that this year on our trip to the United States and I can’t wait!

What book has inspired you to travel?
