The kids are almost back at school and for some lucky mummas, some kiddies have even gone back this week. How I love and adore my kids but WOW they have really pushed me to the limit these holidays. School holiday shenanigans aren’t complete without a couple of trips to emergency and the kids locking you out of the house!
On the plus side, we’ve had summer nights swimming in the ocean till waaaay after bedtime, we’ve been to show after show after show, we’ve hung out with cousins and had sleepovers, we’ve destroyed the front yard with water balloons – all in all its been a wonderful summer break. But here’s the thing: I’m pooped. Totally worn out. This week I am limping to the finish line and instead of planning school holiday activities I’m googling girls trips away all while sipping on a margarita. I’m sure I’m not alone either. So let me save you the trouble and point you in the right direction – here’s my top hit list of fabulous girls trip destinations (go on, you deserve it)!
Who doesn’t love Byron’s motto “Cheer Up, Slow Down, Chill Out” and that’s exactly what a trip here is all about. This dreamy town in NSW is known for its spectacular beaches, stunning surf breaks and hippy hospitality. Blessed with fantastic weather all year round the small town of Byron is home to artisans, free spirits and business people alike.
Atlantic Byron Bay
This was the coolest place for us to base our girl gang from. With communal kitchens and outdoor spaces, Atlantic is well thought out and conducive to interaction. We loved sitting out on the lawn, lapping up the sunshine with a chardy in hand. Atlantic is also super close to the centre of town so you can easily walk to the beach, shops and amazing restaurants.
Okay so the name alone is off to a great start and the food doesn’t disappoint either. This Mexican cantina with artistic vintage tiles and vibrant décor is very popular but well worth the wait.
The Mez Club
This Mediterranean Cantina and Bar oozes Byron Bay relaxed chic. The space itself is absolutely beautiful to look at with white washed walls and natural accents. We spent many humid nights sitting on the deck, drinking in the atmosphere and working our way through the grazing menu.
Nothing screams girls trip quite like HAWAII! I have been lucky enough to go on two girls trips here in recent years and each time my love for the place grows. While I absolutely adore the quieter islands of Hawaii for some R&R, Honolulu combines everything you could ask for on a girls trip away: sun, shopping and cocktails! As an added bonus, each time I’ve been its been Halloween which is one GIANT party.
My top picks would be Trump International Waikiki if you’d like to splash out or for the more budget conscious the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Trump has a spectacular pool and the rooms are very modern and spacious. The Hilton is a little more old school but is right on the beach and has 3 pools for you to choose from as well as the salt water lagoon.
Yes I know it’s a retail store but this could just be the best casual dining spot in Waikiki. We couldn’t get enough of this gem with its rooftop bar and beach-inspired cocktail area complete with a fire pit. Best part: cocktails then a little retail therapy on the way out.
Orchids at Halekulani
If you are looking for somewhere truly spectacular, this is it. Perched just metres from the shore on Waikiki Beach, dining at Orchids is a real treat. The cocktails were unbelievable and that view, well I could’ve sat there all day (ok, so I did sit there most of the day…)
The Island of the Gods is the perfect destination to relax and unwind with your girlfriends – or party like its 1999 depending on what you’re up for! From chilled out beach clubs just metres from the sand to vibrant restaurants with world class cuisine, Bali has it all. Also, with so many beautiful Villas to choose from, almost any size group can be catered for.
My girlfriends and I decided we wanted to experience two different sides to Bali: first the chilled out beach retreat in Uluwatu and then onto the bustling night life and shopping of Seminyak.
We stayed in a 2 bedroom villa with private pool at the Anantara Uluwatu. Set on a steep cliff, this resort was so visually spectacular and beautifully isolated. The view was incredible!
In Seminyak we stayed in a 3 bedroom villa with a private pool at Peppers Seminyak. This was a great little location – right in the middle of all the action where everything was only a walk or short taxi ride away.
We had so many fabulous meals in Bali but one of the real stand outs was Swept Away at the Samaya Ubud. Its well worth the trip to this beautiful location, we were blown away by the tranquil setting on the river – it was the perfect place for a girls lunch.
After a huge morning of shopping nothing is better than stopping in at Mamasan for some quality South East Asian cuisine without the fuss. This super cool industrial dining room oozes ambience and the food is just incredible.
