Following on from our blissful stay in Kuala Lumpur at the Westin (see my previous post HERE for more info) we headed off to picturesque Langkawi. A quick one hour flight later and we were transported away from the bustling city to the lush Jungle. Trees brimming with monkeys, tracks winding through the ancient rainforest and the glistening emerald ocean for days.

Nestled in the pristine rainforest, believed to be at least 10-million years old, The Datai truly is the jewel of Langkawi. As we stepped into our luxurious one bedroom beach villa, we knew all our holiday dreams had come true. Our villa was made up of a freestanding glass enclosed lounge and dining area as well as a separate pavilion which housed a spacious bedroom and the most spectacular bathroom I have ever seen. All this is complimented by a 10 metre private pool and views of the jade Andaman Sea.

The resort itself is set on a slope hidden in the thick of the jungle. There is so much to love about The Datai: a choice of 5 amazing restaurants, two swimming pools (one for adults only and one for families), the sprawling white sandy beach of Datai Bay and an 18 hole championship Golf Course.

The kids loved the authentic Malaysian dining at Gulai House. Deep in the jungle, the open air pavilion treats guests to a traditional array of exquisite food. By far my favorite dining experience at the resort, we kept going back for more!

The location of the Pavilion restaurant makes for a spectacular dining experience. Up in the canopy of the trees with glimpses of the sparkling ocean in the distance. The mellow Thai music sets the scene and the food does not disappoint.

Naga Palangi Cruise – This was the highlight of our stay at the Datai. The Naga Palangi is a hand built 97-foot, traditional wooden schooner-replica that is available for exclusive charter direct from the resort’s Datai Bay.  We did the lunch cruise with the kids and sailed across the Andaman Sea to Thailand for a quick swim! Such a brilliant day out and one we will always remember.

The Datai Spa – Wow, what an experience. The Datai Spa comprises of four open-air villas set along a winding stream that is designed to let you feel the spirit of the surrounding nature. I had the most amazing massage to the natural soundtrack of nearby birds and frolicking monkeys.

Langkawi SkyCab – Hovering high above the jungle, the SkyCab is an exhilarating experience. It’s a wonderful way to see Langkawi and take in the surrounds. We enjoyed the panoramic view from the Top Station viewing decks and it was fun the look at all the love locks. If you are afraid of heights you might want to give this a miss as it’s a fairly steep incline with a few heart stopping moments along the way!
