I’ll leave you with my most memorable moment in the Maldives: We had decided to take the jet skis out on a guided tour. Jet skiing isn’t usually my thing but I thought I’d give it a go. It wasn’t long before we were in open water and I was holding on for dear life. Soon we slowed down at a little island with a surf break in the distance. Our guide told us to slow down and look down. All I could see beneath the jet ski was a sea of silver. Panic rose in my chest as all I could think about was sharks (thanks Nat Geo for Shark Week!). Please don’t let it be sharks. Two seconds later, 60-100 spinner dolphins burst out of the water and leaped all around us. Tears of relief and disbelief streamed down my face. I couldn’t believe what we were seeing. They were so close that they were nudging the jet ski and almost playing with us. I could hear their clicks and gasps as they reached the surface for air. We stayed with them for about 10 minutes until they got closer the the surf break and we had to leave them. It was a truly beautiful experience and one I’ll treasure until I’m old
